I was listening to metal last night and I had a thought. It seems like the Venn diagram for “people who can drive a stick,” and “people who are proficient on a drum kit,” probably has a lot of overlap. *Venn Diagram Edited For Clarity*
Like this, if the blue was stick shift, and the black circle was people who play a drum kit. Something about using both feet to control something you want to do and having them not do the same thing or just alternate.

There’s also a possible overlap with risk of spontaneous combustion, given some of the project cars here.

I’d be in the white sliver, I can drive stick just fine but music is totally outside my wheelhouse.

They are both picked up when funds are low in high school? At least it was the case for the ones I know.

According to teachers, parents and various people I’m a drumming prodigy for 15 years old, yet when I try to drive stick I literally end up tangling me legs and arms together. All I need is more practice though.

pretty sure all of our project cars, manual or otherwise are at danger of self-immolation.

I think I might be in that thin, white sliver there... (I do really enjoy lots of diverse music, but that does not translate into skill. The rest of my extended family is quite skilled, but I was the guy they gave the tambourine to and told to stand in the corner...)

I drive stick and would like to learn to play drums, and not just on Rock Band. My problem is that I find keeping a steady rhythm kind of dull, which is probably why I’m not all that great at playing the bass. I’m always tapping out new and mixed beats, but they’re all over the place and rarely repeated. When driving a stick the patterns don’t necessarily repeat, and the motion is just muscle memory. I don’t think about what I’m doing with the clutch, I just do it and listen to how the car responds.

Seems legit.

You’d be in the blue part outside of the black.

I’m in the blue circle outside the black. No music but drive a stick.

I highly doubt I can play the drums, although I really haven’t tried, by driving stick is a walk in the park
